your first visit

Your First Visit

Your journey with us starts by scheduling a complimentary consultation. During the initial phone call, we will collect basic contact information and send you a link with instructions to complete our online forms. Filling out your medical history will take less than 10 minutes, and your information will be submitted directly on the site. If you have dental insurance, as a courtesy, we can verify your orthodontic benefits prior to your complimentary exam. Our goal is to help every patient maximize their benefits.

Your in-office orthodontic exam will last about one hour. During this time our goal is to provide you with a thorough understanding of your (or your child’s) orthodontic issues and possible treatment options. We will take a panoramic X-ray and digital photos, and Dr. Sheffield or Dr. Le will perform an oral exam.

We’ll discuss your lifestyle, expectations, and goals, and answer any questions you may have about the benefits of orthodontic treatment. We will outline a customized treatment plan for you, including your treatment options, the ideal time to begin, along with the investment and estimated duration.

If treatment is recommended, many times you can get started that same day to save you an additional visit. After your visit, we want you to feel confident and excited to begin your journey to an amazing smile at Sheffield & Le Orthodontics!

Emergency Care

While orthodontic emergencies are rare, we understand that it can be stressful when unexpected issues arise. We are here for you! If you’re dealing with soreness, a loose bracket, a poking wire, or a lost appliance, call our office. We will schedule you for an appointment as soon as possible to relieve your discomfort, and give you guidance for dealing with the discomfort in the meantime. Specific repairs may require an additional visit to allow the proper time to ensure your treatment stays on track.

Our priority is to provide excellent care to our patients, and we will work to resolve any issues as quickly as possible so your treatment remains on track.

Virtual Visits

Sheffield & Le Orthodontics offers convenient virtual visits for people interested in improving their smile. By using our web-based virtual consultation tool, you can share the main concerns you would like to address and submit some photographs. The app will guide you through the process. Please note: We can provide the best feedback with quality photos. We have found it’s best to have another person taking the photos for you versus ‘selfie’ style.

Once the doctors are notified of your submission, they will respond with their findings, potential treatment options, an estimate of the treatment time, and a possible range for the investment. However, all potential new patients will have to come to the office for an in-person visit, where we will take x-rays and your doctor will conduct a brief exam to make a proper diagnosis, confirm your treatment options, and confirm the investment.

Our existing patients, whether in active treatment with braces or clear aligners, patients with retainers, or patients in our growth guidance program, may also use our convenient Virtual Appointment App to reach out to us with questions or concerns in between regular visits.

Our doctors will respond to any virtual appointment submission within 1-2 business days. If you have an issue/concern that may need to be addressed sooner, please call our office for assistance.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 925-757-9100 or [email protected]. We’re happy to help!
