Meet Dr. Sheffield

Dr. Robert Sheffield, a.k.a Dr. Rob, is a California native with deep roots in the East Bay. He grew up in Walnut Creek, and his family has strong ties to the Antioch and East County area. His grandfather was the first football coach at Antioch High School and his grandmother was a long time English teacher at Antioch Middle School. Dr. Rob attended UCLA, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa (one of America’s most prestigious academic honor societies) with a Political Science degree. He decided to follow his calling to be a dentist attending the School of Dentistry at his alma mater, graduating with honors. He continued his training at UCLA completing a combined Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry residency. Now, Dr. Rob is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction held by only a few orthodontists in the country. Dr. Rob volunteers his time, monthly, as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the UOP School of Dentistry.

Dr. Rob’s interest in dentistry emerged at a young age. A childhood visit sparked his enthusiasm, and according to a note from his mother in his scrapbook, a six-year-old Dr. Rob declared it was his dream to become a dentist! Besides creating an amazing smile, Dr. Rob wants all of his patients to experience a caring and fun environment. “I love getting to go to know my patients,” this passion for his profession translates into a genuine desire to help others. He finds fulfillment in orthodontics’ lifelong impact on people’s lives, particularly the transformative power of a beautiful, healthy smile. Thank-you notes and patient stories are his trophies, with one particular case holding a special place in his heart: A young, blind patient whose wish was to have a radiant smile. After completing her treatment, she expressed, “I can’t see my smile, but I can feel it!”

Dr. Rob is married to his high school sweetheart, and together they have three grown children named Courtney, Ryan, and Kaitlyn. In his free time, Dr. Rob enjoys skiing, golfing, and enjoying the great outdoors.
